Titanium golf clubs have started fires in California! Titanium is normally known in golf circles because titanium club heads can increase the distance a person can hit a ball due to the springy nature of titanium. Titanium is also 45% lighter making the club easier to swing.
Investigators trying to determine the source of two fires at California golf courses discovered another property of titanium. It can shoot out 3000-degree sparks that will catch vegatation on fire! This can happen when the club head strikes a rock and causes the titanium to spark. Stainless steel club heads did not spark in the same conditions.
